The 2nd Exchange

Since we made the move up north, I haven’t needed to drive much. I am working from home, a bus comes to pick Morgan up for school and brings her home, and Chris typically drives when we go anywhere as family. Right now, the only time I have been driving myself is when I head down-state for work (once a month) or if I have to run an errand or take someone to the doctor. In other words, I’m not driving much anymore.

Fast forward to the winter season… Chris has told me over the last couple of years that he wanted to get into snow plowing again. There are a lot more opportunities to do this in our new area and less competition to do so. I correctly assumed this would be part of his work plan for this year. However, I was not expecting him to pitch the “I need a new work truck” spiel so soon. But he did…

First, Chris told me that we should consider selling my vehicle (2022 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro) since the payment was so high and I was barely using it. Plus, we already had an extra vehicle in case I really needed to go somewhere alone. I wasn’t thrilled with the idea because I really loved my Sequoia, but he did make a good point about the payments and we still haven’t sold our home in Royal Oak, so finances have been a little tight. So I agreed to let him list it.

Goodbye Sequoia…

Later, he approached me and told me that he found a dealership that had a truck that he “needed for work as a backup snow plowing vehicle” and they would take my Sequoia as a trade for it. This trade would also cut our car payment in half. Although I didn’t agree with him needing ANOTHER truck (he already has 2), it was hard to argue about the payment going down so much. So I agreed to let him make the trade.

Chris was over the moon with his new purchase – a 2017 Dodge Ram 2500. He decided that the best vehicle for me to drive would be his 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramine. This truck has a 4 inch lift and sits on 37 inch tires. AKA it is a MONSTER truck. For those of you who don’t know me, I am not a tall person. Barely above 5 feet (5’2″), I really struggle to get into this thing. To make it even better, Chris took the running boards off because he “didn’t like the way they looked”. The floor of the truck literally comes to my belly button…

My new “daily driver” has been Chris’s pride and joy for the past couple years. It is a very recognizable vehicle and he loves the attention he gets when he drives it. I do not love the attention. Especially when it is so difficult for me to get in and out of. My first solo trip down-state was a couple of weeks ago and I definitely attracted a lot of attention. First of all, it was the largest and loudest vehicle in the parking lot at my work by far! Second of all, everyone found it hilarious to watch me get in and out of it. So embarrassing! Haha And third of all, I really struggled to park it anywhere!

My friend/coworker, Caitlin, and I took a trip to visit a supplier for work and they really enjoyed giving me a hard time about my new monster truck. They do a lot of welding and offered to weld me some stairs to help me get into it easier. Haha! I’m so glad that everyone was enjoying the laughs at my expense!

The Struggle is Real

When I got home, Chris told me that he had finally purchased some new running boards that looked “cool enough” for him to put on. However, they didn’t fit properly so he had to weld them onto the frame. Because of this, they weren’t super low for me to use, and it is still rather difficult for me to get into.

Oh well. At least it makes for a good story and I can spread joy and laughs to friends and coworkers. Haha! And Chris says I fit in up north with a truck and I will be “the coolest mom in the school pickup line”. Great…

Thanks for reading!
