Ready for a history lesson on the new house?! Chris did a walk through with the previous owners last weekend. They were so wonderful! They showed him all around the house and a good portion of the property. He was there for 3 hours and learned a lot! Here are the bullet points:
- This property has been in the previous owner (lets call him Todd)’s family since the 1880’s!
- Before Todd owned the property, it belonged to his dad. And his dad’s dad before that. Before Todd’s family purchased the property, it was state land and thought to be the home of a Native American Tribe.
- The pole barn (photos to come) was the original house on the property and the wood stove in the back section was the original heat source.
- Todd has groomed the property for trapping deer and turkey. Although his traps have caught more animals than intended, including a badger and a mountain lion at one point! Yikes! Now I know why he told us to carry protection while going to into the wooded section of the land.
- Todd has also seen a black bear in the woods. (However, this was many years ago.) Woah….
- Todd and his wife have decided to sell because they are planning to move out of state to be closer to family. We have promised to keep them updated on our adventures on our little slice of heaven.
Aside from what Todd shared with Chris in person, we have also learned that there are 3+ ponds on the property and at least 2 mature apple trees. Chris is very excited to get one of the ponds cleaned up so he and Dale (our Golden Retriever) can swim in it. Is that a thing? Swimming in ponds? Why does that sound gross to me? Haha
We are closing on the house tomorrow and will be able to start moving in right away. Chris is beyond excited to get all of his toys up that and start exploring. Last night we were laying in bed and he said “I can’t wait to be up north and mowing my giant lawn”. Haha! Is this what men look forward to? Mowing lawn? Am I missing out on something? I might need to explore this… Hmmm…
Well, that’s all I’ve got for now. Stay tuned for all of the excitement to come!
Thanks for reading!
